Michael Young

Michael Young is a seasoned healthcare executive and six-time CEO serving on the Board of Directors for Patient Rebellion, a 501(c)(3) advocacy organization. He brings unparalleled expertise in combining financial discipline, business acumen, and creative problem-solving to drive organizational improvement in patient safety, quality, and outcomes.

Most recently, Mr. Young served as the President and CEO of Temple University Health System, where he led a strategic transformation that nearly doubled revenue and significantly improved profitability. During his tenure, he successfully guided the system through the COVID-19 pandemic and expanded the organization through strategic acquisitions, including Chestnut Hill Hospital and Temple Women & Families Hospital.

A recognized specialist in revitalizing distressed healthcare institutions, Mr. Young has a proven track record of restoring struggling hospitals to profitability and attaining national benchmarks in clinical outcomes. His executive leadership includes directing major turnarounds across multiple institutions.

At Pinnacle Health System, he transformed an organization experiencing a decade of declining volume and managed a $1.2B annual expense budget. Michael revitalized Grady Health System, a struggling non-profit that had lost $80M in the previous year and transitioned it into an independent entity. Furthermore, at Erie County Medical Center Corporation, he produced a financial turnaround in just one year for a facility that had been losing $25M annually.

Throughout his career, Mr. Young has successfully negotiated the acquisition of five hospitals and 15 outpatient centers. Demonstrating his profound commitment to institutional growth and community health, he has personally raised over $500M in capital campaigns and secured $10M for community healthcare programming. Now retired from executive leadership, Mr. Young leverages his extensive background to help guide Patient Rebellion’s strategic vision and advocacy initiatives.
